Shutters

Do you build Louvered shutters with adjustablelouvers/slats so that the louver angle can be changed?

A: No, we do not. Our Plantation Louvered shutters' louvers are fixed at
a 17 degree angle for 1 3/4" louvers and 22 degree angle for 1 7/8"
louvers.

For our Closed Louver Style Bahamas the louvers are also at a fixed 17
degree angle for 1 3/4" louvers and 22 degree angle for 1 7/8"
louvers.

Our Open Louver Style Bahamas shutter with 1-3/4" x 1/4"
louvers are fixed at a 45 degree angle. The 1-7/8" x 3/8" louvers on
an Open Bahamas Style shutter are fixed at a 30 degree angle.

Can you build shutter designs that are notavailable on the website?

Yes! We build many types of custom shutters that are
not listed on the website. Examples of other styles include Flat Panel, Shaker
Style, Framed Board and Batten, Horizontal Boards, and Bermuda shutters are
what we call Bahamas shutters. Some customizations that incur fees include
different shutter thickness, rail and stile widths, cutouts, rabbet/ship-lap,
beading, tails, horns, louver overlap, louver size, louver angle, solid arch
top, combination panel and louver sections, custom arch size, etc. Give us a
call so we can discuss your custom design, or email us your requirements
(sales@SunbeltShutters.com). No one can beat our service or price.

Can Shuttershop stain my shutters?

Sorry, but unfortunately we can not offer staining services.

What is the difference between "Unfinished" and "Staingrade?"

Good question. Except for Board & Batten Rough
Sawn Cedar (Common Grade lumber), we use Select Grade for building our
shutters. For "Stain-grade" extra time is taken to pick out the best
pieces in the lot with the least amount of natural flaws. And if they do have
natural flaws, we put them on the back side, and if needed, we would only use
stain-able putty to fill in any flaws rather than Bondo which can be painted
over. For "Unfinished" we assume the customer is going to prime and
paint their own shutters. So if there are any slight natural flaws, we use
Bondo to smooth them over, and sand the shutters so that they are ready to be
primed and painted by the customer.

Can Shuttershop prime my shutters?

Absolutely. We recommend you order your shutters primed unless you are ordering a stain-grade shutter.

Do you sell interior plantation shutters?

We only sell exterior shutters in the USA. We are considering adding some interior offerings. Drop us an email and let us know your are looking for interior blinds or shutters.

Can Shuttershop paint my shutters with a final coat of paint?

Yes, we do offer Final Paint service and offer 23 In-Stock paint colors. (9 are Benjamin Moore colors.) And
we also offer to Color Match a custom color for an additional fee to the order.
For both In-stock and custom colors we use the same high end quality paint:
Benjamin Moore's Corotech High Performance Command Water-Bourne Acrylic Urethane, V392, with a satin finish.

For a custom color paint, once the order is placed, we will purchase the paint and mail you a swatch for your approval prior to painting the shutters.

Do you have a list of shutter terms and definitions?
Are your Bahamas shutters storm rated?

Shuttershop sells a storm-rate aluminum shutter.

How can you build arched top shutters to matchmy arch?

On the order page, enter the tallest length for the shutter's height. We also need to know the shortest side of the shutters to
know where to start the arch. This is called the springline and you will enter that measurement on the product order page.

Can you build the shutters with cut-outs?

Yes we can for Raised Panel, Flat Panel, Board and Batten and Framed Board and Batten shutters. We have many common designs. These are shown within the product order form. We can cut most custom designs. You can upload your design on the product order form while configuring your shutter. We will contact you to coordinate the size and location of your cutout.

Will painting these exterior vinyl shutters diminish the wood grain texture?

No. Although the texture is not as deep as with some other brands of vinyl shutters, Mastic shutters still look like real wood even with a coat or two of paint applied.

For most windows 4 hinges (2 sets) are sufficient for hanging a set of wooden window shutters. However, we recommend 3 sets of hinges for all composite shutters and wooden shutter with lengths greater than 55".

Are the wood shutters easy to mount?

Absolutely for traditional situations. Just follow our installation directions on the "Shutter Mounting Instructions" page. Do take into consideration placement of pintels and the materials to which they will be mounted.

Purchasing

If I don't like my exterior shutters, can I returnthem and get my money back?

If you ordered standard sized vinyl shutters, we can accept a return. Most of the exterior shutters on our web site are custom made to your specifications and we cannot accept returns for refund on custom shutters.
However, we will try to make whatever necessary adjustments we can to ensure
your satisfaction. Please see our Return Policy.

Can I call to place my order?

Yes, give us a call at 888-889-3778.

How do I measure my windows for my new customwood shutters?

Measuring is easy, but keep in mind any unique situations if using
functional hardware. For traditional shutters, take a look at our "How
to Measure
" page. For Bahamas shutters you will need to consider your placement of the hinge at the top of the shutter and the
placement of the Bahamas Arms. Call or email for additional information.

What is the delivery time for my customshutters?

We custom build each order. Our manufacturing goal is to build the
shutters in 4 weeks. You can expect delivery in approximately 4 to 5 weeks for
Unfinished or Primed shutters. Typically, during peak production (spring-fall)
your shutters should be built in approximately 20 business days of your order.

Do you offer Expedited Manufacturing?

Yes, with the confirmation of our foreman. There is a 25% Expedited Fee for the order to leave our shop in 5 business days (rarely
approved for primed or painted orders), and a 20% Expedited Fee for an order to
leave our shop in 10 business days. Please call us to coordinate an expedited build request.

Shipping

Do you offer express shipping for exterior shutters?

Yes we do, provided you pay for the extra shippingcharges. Please Contact Us for a shipping quote.

How is my order shipped?

We ship your order via well-known, reliable carriers such as United Parcel Service, Federal Express, or ABF Freight. Shipping is
provided to you free of charge on most orders. We choose the best carrier
depending on the size and weight of your order and your location. Larger orders
are shipped via freight carrier. We provide tracking information within your account.

When will my order be shipped?

Shipping times vary widely depending on the item(s) you order. For an estimated shipping time, please see the page(s) of the
product(s) that you are interested in. Custom-made items are built after you
order them, so there is no need to worry if they are "in stock" because we can always make them for you.

Can I change my delivery address after my orderhas shipped?

Sometimes, it depends on the shipping company who will charge a fee to change it (sometimes $35-$75). Once the shutters leave our shop, you will be responsible for delivery receipt at your address. You can contact us to help coordinate the change, but any additional delivery charges
will be your responsibility.

Can you deliver the shutters to my home address?

Yes, we can ship the shutters to your home address. Remember, if you order more than a pair or two of shutters, we will likely ship your shutters via Freight Line. So there is a possibility that an 18-wheeler would need to come down your street and the freight companies do not move crates to a preferred location on the property. The freight company will expect you to be at home for delivery and will not just drop the order at your door. The freight company may or may not contact you ahead of time to inform you of a delivery time. We would suggest that you call the local terminal the morning of the estimated delivery to see what their delivery schedule is for that day.

Installation and Maintenance

I am unable to install my exterior shutters. Can you recommend someone in my area that can help me?

We do not have a network of installers at our disposal, but we can recommend that you call a local general contractor, carpenter, or handyman service. You will be responsible for the cost of the installation.

Do I need to do any maintenance on my shutters?

Shutters are much like any other part of your home's exterior. We recommend yearly inspectiion and cleaning. Clean with soap and water. Don't you anything corrosive like bleach. Woods shutters are a natural product and will expand and contract through the year as the temperatures change. So you may see tiny expansion cracks at some joints or on the ends of the louvers. We recommend using touchup paint if you see any bare wood.

My exterior wall is uneven. How do I install my exterior vinyl shutters?
  • You can use ferrules (a short cylindrical pipe) as standoffs to keep your vinyl shutters stable. Simply paint them, trim to size, and mount them behind your exterior shutters. Do not to put wood blocks behind the vinyl exterior shutters because they will rot fairly quickly.
How do I remove the Shutterplugs from the vinyl shutters once they are in place?
  • Slide a chisel behind the vinyl shutter until it comes in contact with the Shutterplug. Make sure to keep the sharp edge of the chisel away from the wall. Give the chisel a sharp tap with a hammer and it will cut through the Shutterplug. After the shutter is removed, shear the remaining part of the Shutterplug flush with the surface and bore out the shank with a drill. Fill the hole with silicone to weatherproof. See our Vinyl Shutter Removal Instructions for additional
